Scenetec have recently completed the theming out of a series of memory zones in a state of the art purpose built dementia care home in the New Forest, Hampshire. The themed areas include the exterior of a fishing tackle shop, the inside of an old railway carriage, a market stall, a wooded area and a seaside promenade. These areas have been specifically designed to stimulate long term memory and are complete with props and period items.
According to Alzheimer Research UK dementia affects 820,000 people in the UK, a number forecast to rise rapidly as the population ages. As well as the huge personal cost, dementia costs the UK economy £23 billion a year, more than cancer and heart disease combined.
