Noddy the Stage Show

Noddy the Stage Show

Along with the set, we’ve recently built a full size electric Noddy car for the new stage tour Noddy in Toyland. The car is made from glass reinforced plastic, has twin electric motors driving the rear wheels and rechargeable 12v batteries. With the ability to turn 360 degrees, the car has an excellent turning circle, an important requirement for stage use. As the tour will be going to most regional theatres the stage set and car had to be adaptable for many stage sizes.

The Noddy books were first published 60 years ago in 1949. The author, Enid Blyton, spent many years holidaying in Purbeck, Dorset which provided the inspiration for many of her books – only a stone’s throw away from our studio.

More pictures of the car and set can be viewed in the Scentec portfolio section.

It Never Rains But It Pours!

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

We recently designed and built the stage set for the current national tour of Singin’ in the Rain starring Olivier Award winning West End and Broadway star Tim Flavin as Don Lockwood, the role immortalised by Gene Kelly.

Singing in the Rain

Singing in the Rain

As part of the set we had to design and build the rain system, a key element of the show. The system we devised, after much experimentation and research, consisted of an elaborate irrigation system fed from a tank in the wings via a pump. The water was collected in a gutter built into the touring stage floor. This was then re-circulated into the tank.

The Singin’ in the Rain number lasts for only five minutes and in that time, over 1,000 water droplet valves produce 600,000 drops of water. In all, around 583 litres of water per week, the equivalent to about five full bath tubs, will be used to produce the effect.

Beauty and the Beast

Beauty and the Beast

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is currently touring the UK for a phenomenal fifth year and has received fantastic reviews over that period. We designed and built two stage sets for the tour to give it the adaptability to fit the majority of venues in the UK and abroad where it has played in Greece, Malaysia and Malta.

The show incorporates projection, illusions and pyrotechnics. It’s a fantastic family show with all the right elements for a wonderful night out. Catch it at a venue near you soon.

More photographs from the show can be viewed in the Scenetec portfolio section.
